I’ve had the unique experience of being both a client and a student at American Barber Academy.
As a client, the service was always great. All services are performed by students, but always under the watchful eye of a licensed instructor. The haircuts take longer than they would in a barbershop, but of course that is to be expected when someone is working on perfecting their craft. The students who cut my hair were always very attentive and made sure to ask plenty of questions so that I got what I wanted.
I enjoyed my time there as a client so much that I actually ended up enrolling as a student. I couldn’t be more pleased with my education at ABA. Every single staff member works hard to ensure that you’re learning as much as you can during your time there. They make sure that your education is not only fun, but effective as well. There are so many opportunities to grow, both as a student and a person. The small class sizes allow for a lot of one-on-one time with the instructors, which is necessary when you’ve never picked up clippers or wrapped a perm rod in your life. They bend over backwards to accommodate you whenever possible; whether you need some time off of school or you need extra help with something, your needs will be met. All you have to do show up every day, have a positive attitude, and genuinely put forth effort and you will be successful at ABA. While job placement isn’t guaranteed, the majority of students have a job before graduation. George knows just about everyone in the local barbering community and works tirelessly to try to get his students into barbershops where they’ll do well.
Again, thank you to George, Nick, Carlos, Ryan, Rico, Mrs. Pilon, Eida, and Linda for all of your help during my 14 months at ABA. It has been a pleasure!
